Alex Roeka

As an artist you spend a lot of time on the road. It is a life apart. You don’t really have a home, and when you get there, often in the middle of the night, it feels like an empty, strange place.

‘The highway is my home’, they sing in America, and there’s something in that. Over the years you come to feel at home in your car, on the motorways, in the theatres, the cafés, the hotels and at the petrol stations.

It is an uprooted way of life, but if you can handle it, on the whole a pleasant one, and it has a mental effect too: you keep moving and stay open to change and adventure.

Alex Roeka’s current theatre show is inspired by thirty years of being on-the-road. Hence the title ‘OP DRIFT’.
