Bert Heerink & Martijn van der Zande
On Saturday, March 23, 2019, Bert Heerink played with Jan Akkerman's band 'My Brainbox' at the Podium in Hoogeveen. In the support act, a confident young man, Martijn van der Zande, accompanied himself on guitar, played a number of beautiful Dutch songs! Knowing that a rock band will break out after you is 'guts' to say the least. Martijn remained in the back of our minds and could count on growing interest from both his own audience and Bert Heerink.
Bert, himself known as the singer of the band Vandenberg ('Burning Heart' became a world hit) and later successful with, among others, 'Juli July', performances and tours with large orchestras, singing Disney films, of which Tarzan and Brother Bear are the best known, and often asked as a guest singer in major projects including the Pink Floyd Project, saw Martijn van der Zande as the man for an acoustic project under the name 'Classic Country'.
A number of country songs have been adapted for this program in such a way that, in addition to the current Heroes of Rock, an acoustic repertoire has been created. From classics such as 'Country Roads' by John Denver and 'Green, green Grass of home' by Tom Jones to surprising performances by artists such as Glen Campbell and Linda Ronstadt;
