ATMAN (8+)

Jeugdvoorstellingen

Opera Zuid, Dutch National Opera and the Dutch Reisopera presentAtman!, a musical story that borders on the unbelievable. Nine-year-old Atman gets lost in his own town. He has the keys to home in his pocket, but no longer knows where he lives. He asks for advice on the street. A man doesn't have time ("Ask me again tomorrow"). A woman takes him along ('You guys like yours are good sailor pink'). But Atman wants to go home, not across the ocean. What starts as a simple request ('Do you know which way I should go?') becomes a journey with detours and obstacles that sometimes seem - or no: are - insurmountable for a nine-year-old boy. Composer Leonard Evers and writer Bart Moeyaert give shape to this journey in music and language.

About the artist (One-man orchestra)

Evers previously wrote the children's opera Goud! for Opera Zuid and Dutch National Opera. This has been performed throughout Europe since 2012. Other operas by him are Odysseeand Kriebel (2+). In Atman! Evers utilizes all the possibilities of the accordion: the one-man orchestra and wandering instrument par excellence.   His literary oeuvre is internationally acclaimed and he has won, among others, the Flemish Culture Prize, the Woutertje Pieterse Prize and the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, the highest award in children's literature. The libretto of Atman! also appeared in book form.  At Opera Zuid, Van Elst created and directed the staged Liederabend Eternal Road about the life of composer Kurt Weill in 2022.

Atmanlasts approximately one hour and is sung and spoken in Dutch.
