De Kleine Prins (8+)

‘De Kleine Prins’, published in 1946, is a modern fairy tale by the writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery. It is his best-known book and the most translated work in French literature. Last year the count stood at more than 160 translations – not even including adaptations for film or musical theatre. In 1999 the book came fourth in the poll of the 100 best books of the 20th century (Le Monde).

This beautiful family musical tells the story of ‘De Kleine Prins’ as it has never been seen before in Dutch theatres. 
The Little Prince and The Pilot set off on a journey that takes them to various planets and to Earth. A Rose, a Geographer, a Lamplighter, a Businessman, a King and a Fox accompany them as they learn the true value of love and friendship. On Earth, the Little Prince sees a whole row of rose bushes. He is disappointed, because he thought his Rose was the only one in the universe. But The Fox explains to the little prince that his Rose is unique and special after all, because she is the one he loves.

The show features magical projections for every scene, enchanting performances and beautiful music that will move the audience. 

‘De Kleine Prins’ is a musical that matters. It reminds us that the value of an object or a person lies in the memories it evokes in us. In this way you see things that cannot be seen with the naked eye, but can be seen with the soul and the heart; it is those things that give life meaning.

The staging of ‘De Kleine Prins’ originates in Barcelona and was created by the company La Perla 29. Manu Guix, also known as a musical theatre singer, composed the music and wrote beautiful songs in a variety of styles. 

It was directed by Angel Llacer, a well-known television presenter who made his directing debut just over three years ago.

‘De Kleine Prins’ has now been performed more than 400 times at the Theatre Barts in the heart of Barcelona’s cultural centre, and continues to draw large audiences.
