New tech show about online and offline encounters – complete with matching app   

Two young people are done with reality. What fun is there to be had there anyway? Peace out, they’re carrying on online. Is online better than real life? Where audiences at Rabbit Hole (2023) could respond via their smartphones, we are now going one step further: visitors can communicate directly with each other during and after the show. Will you meet your online match afterwards? This innovative and daring tech show (12+) tours theatres throughout the Netherlands from 19 February. 

Panicky parents and burnt-out teachers   

Ras and Boh are online all day and all night: TikTok challenges, beauty trend vids, DIY tutorials, memes; cruising through GTA together for hours, just the two of them, in the flow. Anywhere but IRL: that whole dictatorial outside world full of panicky parents barging into your room, burnt-out teachers trying to spoon-feed you useless knowledge and an entire army of adults showing you exactly HOW YOU DON’T WANT TO BE. But 24/7 online – is that really it? Will you persuade Ras and Boh to come back to IRL, or would you rather go with them?      

Match – play - meet  

De Toneelmakerij previously made the Zilveren Krekel-winning Rabbit Hole, about growing up in the digital age. NRC wrote: 'Rarely as an adult do you get such direct insight into the dialogue between teenagers' (★★★★). In In Real Life (IRL), too, de Toneelmakerij experiments with direct digital interaction: an app pairs you with a fellow audience member with whom you play mini-games and work together to score points. Will you meet your online match afterwards? Every performance is followed by a post-show talk about the blurring boundaries between offline and online relationships: relatable for teenagers, instructive for teachers and parents.
