Piaf
A new Dutch musical about the life and death of a legend
After a life full of drink, drugs and men, one of France's greatest artists died 60 years ago: Edith Piaf. Now, long after her death, her songs are still listened to and sung all over the world. Songs like 'Non, Je ne regrette rien', 'La Vie En Rose', 'Milord' and 'Padam' are just a few immortal examples from an impressive repertoire of songs. Using stories and her unforgettable music, the phenomenal Piaf relives several important moments from her life. She discovers who she was and finds out what it is that she leaves behind.
The story behind the legend
Edith Piaf has just died. And she is very confused. This isn't what she wanted. This is not what she ever imagined. She would die in Paris with a priest at her bedside. Not in some hamlet. Only recently deceased, the confused Piaf encounters four characters: The Angel. The Devil. The Jester. And death. Then it turns out that her husband Theo Sarapo has listened carefully to her. He called an ambulance and lied to the driver that Edith was sleeping. It's a long journey, almost a thousand kilometers. Piaf insists to her four companions that she is not dead as long as she is not in Paris. And as long as she doesn't know what she's leaving behind. For the duration of the journey to Paris, she is stuck with these four passengers, each of whom has left an indelible impression on her life. Piaf wants to know where these four were in her life. Through their stories and the unforgettable music of Edith Piaf, the legend relives several important moments in her life to discover who she was and find out what it is that she leaves behind.
