TOEAC & De Stilte
On stage stands a revolving platform, neatly divided in two by a bookcase. When a book is torn in half, the world around it begins to move.
From then on, things move fast: the entire bookcase is dismantled. What seemed so beautifully organised turns into chaos. What to do with the pieces? Which puzzle shall we put together this time?
Perhaps we should try to make a new world. What is past, we forget.
A new world? That’s easier said than done. There turn out to be many of them.
Through dance and music, a series of developments is set in motion in an attempt to bring the world back together. Thrilling dance, sparkling music, slow, fast, loud, soft, silent, whispering, shouting: as varied as life itself can be.
Halve Verhalen is a co-production by de Stilte and accordion duo TOEAC (Pieternel Berkers and Renée Bekkers). TOEAC is an internationally acclaimed accordion duo known for its groundbreaking interpretations and wide-ranging collaborations. From prestigious stages around the world to innovative music-theatre productions, the duo performs a dynamic repertoire uniting classical music with contemporary influences. TOEAC makes its instruments sound like wind players, strings and singers. The press has written of ‘enviable dexterity, musical insight and a hefty dose of daring’.
With music by Rameau, Zolotaryov and their own work, Halve Verhalen is full of contrasts that turn out to go together perfectly.
